The next morning, Donkey awoke and, realizing Diddy and their bananas were missing, he found and released Diddy and the two set off to reclaim them and drive the Kremlings off of Donkey Kong Island. Unable to hold off an attack by Krusha, Diddy was sealed in a DK Barrel. Diddy was actually able to defeat a handful of Kremlings, it wasn't until Krusha arrived that he was starting to struggle and eventually was overpowered. Unfortunately, when Donkey Kong assigned this duty to Diddy, he didn't expect the Kremling Krew to attack. Wanting to humor his overly-eager friend, Donkey told the inexperienced Diddy to guard their huge Banana Hoard until midnight.

Diddy has made good friends with Banjo the Honey Bear, Conker the Red Squirrel, his childhood friend Timber the Tiger, and even Krunch the Kremling. The nimble Diddy with his childlike naivety has gone on countless adventures with Donkey and is a jovial peace seeker wanting to help all of his friends. The type of monkey he was based on is a Spider Monkey.
He is has been described by his designer as a "chimpney", a portmanteau merging the terms "chimpanzee" and "monkey". He is the fastest and most agile member of the Kong Family, a rather quick thinker on the fly, and Donkey Kong's eager best friend.
